EKVE will affect forest reserve, says DEIA report

SHAH ALAM: An equivalent of 300 football fields( each 0.7 hectares) of forest reserve will be destroyed with the construction of the proposed East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE).

The executive summary of the detailed environmental impact assessment (DEIA) report, available online, revealed that the EKVE would affect 214.7 hectares of forest reserve, displace protected species and affect water catchment areas.

Forest researcher says findings on how project would impact wildlife were incomplete

PETALING JAYA: The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the proposed East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) is flawed and should be rejected.Forest researcher and former Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) honorary secretary Lim Teck Wyn said this yesterday claiming that the EIA report on the contentious section of the KL Outer Ring Road (KLORR) is “defective”.

Lim said the project would have a major impact on the wildlife in the area as the proposed route of the EKVE would cut through the Hulu Gombak, Ampang and Hulu Langat Forest Reserves, affecting some 214.7 ha of forested area.

The area also presently serves as an important water catchment area to the Klang Valley.
