Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) telah menjadi tuan rumah kepada majlis pelancaran program Zon Bersih, Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan Negeri Selangor. Majlis pelancaran telah disempurnakan oleh Y.B. Tuan Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Tetap Kerajaan Tempatan, Kajian dan Penyelidikan, Negeri Selangor bertempat di Taman Tasik Shah Alam. program Zon Bersih ini merupakan aktiviti untuk memupuk kesedaran dan budaya cintakan kebersihan melalui penglibatan komuniti serta menjadikan Shah Alam serta Negeri Selangor sebuah negeri yang paling bersih di Malaysia.

Solar-powered lights at bus stops malfunction soon after being fixed

MORE than 80 solar-powered lights at bus stops in Kajang, Cheras and Semenyih malfunctioned within three months after being installed.

Kajang municipal councillor Eddie Ng said only eight out of the 96 lights were functioning and the rest were not in working condition.

Ng said the lights were installed at the end of 2010 and in less than three months many had malfunctioned.

Last year, 40 bus stops were refurbished, including 26 that were demolished and rebuilt.

A must: One of the requirements is to have the Malaysian flag at the upgraded bus stops.

To curb the problem of illegal dumping, Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) Zone 23 councillor Lee Khai Loon has enlisted the help of the community.

This photo of a man illegally dumping rubbish was taken by a resident and emailed to Zone 23 councillor Lee Khai Loon.

Under the citizen watch programme, residents monitor their neighbourhoods for those trying to offload their rubbish there. With a mobile phone or digital camera, residents can take photographic evidence of the culprit in the act and email the photographs to

“The residents will act as our eyes and ears to help us to put a stop to illegal dumping,” he said.

For A Beautiful Earth – MNS

A TOTAL of 2,000 saplings were planted within two hours of non-stop labour at Sungai Sepang Kecil, Sepang.

For the second year running, Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia in partnership with Parkson Corporation organised a month-long campaign, themed “Beautiful Earth” to reduce the use of one-time plastic and paper bags, raise monies to rehabilitate the mangrove forest in Sungai Sepang Kecil through its “A Bag for a Tree” project.

Over 120 staff, family members and friends from Parkson, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Estee Lauder Companies, as well as members of the media took part in the tree-planting activity.

Hard at work: Zizan was one of the Earth Month Ambassadors who participated.
