Grow your own greens

FOOD prices will not come down in the near future. We can complain and point fingers but this won’t solve the problem of high grocery bills.

Instead of complaining, why not help yourself. Grow your own vegetables. It is not that difficult. All you need is a few feet of open space, and even your balcony or window sills will do.

By growing your own vegetables your monthly food bill will be reduced. If this alone does not motivate you to plant your own vegetables, here are few more reasons why you should.

You don’t have to worry about contamination that may occur on the farm or in the transportation process.

When you plant your own vegetables, you know they are safe and healthy to eat.

Planting your own vegetables also indirectly helps you to relax and de-stress after a hard day at the office.

Planting your own vegetables also helps you to exercise. All the bending, standing and digging of the soil makes a good workout.

But, for me, the best reason we should plant our own vegetables

is watching a seed grow into a vegetable and later ending up on my plate.

If you have extra vegetables in your garden you can either give it to your neighbours, which they will gladly accept, or you can sell it to them at a cheaper rate, which they will also appreciate.

When you stop to think about it, the benefits of growing your own vegetables are pretty amazing.

Not only can you benefit from a healthier diet, lose weight and fight disease, but you’ll also have a creative new way to exercise and a healthier mental outlook of life.
